  1. What is The Desktop Internet Reference?

  3. The Desktop Internet Reference is a hypertext reference to
  4. the Internet.  Its eighteen thousand pages cover the
  5. following topics:

  7.  1) What is the Internet?  How does it work?
  8.  2) How can I get connected to the Internet?
  9.  3) What resources are available?  How can I find things?
  10.  4) How do I use these resources?
  11.  5) Where can I find more about these topics?
  12.  
  13. This reference is based on Peter Scott's Hytelnet, an
  14. excellent DOS and UNIX reference to the Internet.  Other documents
  15. included are: The Hitchhikers Guide to the Internet
  16. NSF's Internet Resource Guide, Zen and the Art of the Internet,
  17. Introduction to the Internet: A Reading List, Putting your home
  18. PC on the Internet, the Public Dialup Internet Access List,
  19. The Totally Unofficial List of Internet Muds, High Weirdness
  20. on the Internet, ARCHIE user commands, Individual access to the
  21. Internet and a List of all known anonymous FTP sites.  Each of
  22. these documents is included here in its entirity, with all
  23. original copyrights retained.

  25. I feel that The Desktop Internet Reference is special
  26. because it brings together a large number of useful
  27. documents into a single cross-linked, easily accessed form.
  28. I hope it will make the Internet more accessible to
  29. the average computer user.

  32. -> It may be freely distributed without restiction.  A duplication
  33. -> cost of $10 or less may be legally charged by a distribution agent.

  39. The latest version of the Desktop Internet Reference is available via
  40. anonymous FTP at various sites worldwide.  The FTP site "FTP.UWP.EDU"
  41. always carries the latest version in the directory /pub/msdos/dir.  Or,
  42. send the author a check for $10 for the latest version on a 3.5"
  43. MS-DOS disk.

  46. version of The Desktop Internet Reference.  The author would also
  47. like to make versions of this program available for other computing
